Lemvig Harbour - Sustainable Investment

Lemvig Harbour is taking a step toward a greener future by installing BAC Impalloy’s Low-Zinc™ aluminium anodes.
This initiative is part of the harbour’s strategic effort to reduce its environmental impact while optimizing infrastructure maintenance.

Lemvig Harbour has a clear ambition to minimize its impact on the environment, and the choice of the Low-Zinc™ anode was driven by this mindset. “The prospect of reducing our environmental footprint made this solution particularly interesting,” says Kenneth Borum Kjærgaard, Harbour Master at Lemvig Harbour.

Anodes play a crucial role in protecting harbour infrastructure from corrosion, but traditional anodes often contain a high amount of zinc, which pollutes the marine environment. BAC Impalloy’s Low-Zinc™ ISO 9351 aluminium alloy mitigates this risk while delivering high capacity and extended lifespan per kilogram of anode.

Part of a Broader Strategy

For Lemvig Harbour, sustainability is not just about isolated initiatives but rather a holistic strategy. “We work with sustainability on multiple levels, from electricity consumption and material selection to durability and CO2 footprint,” Kenneth explains.

The new anodes have just been installed and will be monitored after an activation period. “We need to see how they perform over time. We expect them to be effective, and this will be confirmed through measurements,” he states.

An Investment in the Future

Switching to a new type of anode is a significant decision for a harbour like Lemvig, both economically and environmentally. “It’s quite a substantial investment, so it’s great to be able to check it off,” says Kenneth, who has great confidence in BAC Impalloy as a supplier.

The collaboration between Lemvig Harbour and BAC Impalloy marks an important step toward more sustainable harbour operations. With the innovative Low-Zinc™ technology, the harbour gains an efficient and more environmentally friendly solution that reduces pollution and optimizes infrastructure. This initiative highlights Lemvig Harbour’s commitment to investing in future-proof and responsible solutions, benefiting both the harbour and the environment—and perhaps serving as an example for other harbours looking to take environmental responsibility.
